About ScopeGuard

ScopeGuard is built by Emmaus Development LLC, a one-person software company in Oklahoma. I'm Rene, and I've been building business software for over 30 years.

Why I Built This

I've spent decades helping small businesses manage their operations—databases, invoices, client management, job tracking. Building custom solutions for specific needs.

Along the way, I saw the same problem over and over: freelancers and consultants doing extra work they never got paid for.

Not because clients were bad. But because the conversation about scope was awkward, so it just... didn't happen. A "quick favor" became three hours. A "small tweak" became a redesign. And billing for it felt weird, so they didn't.

"I knew I should've charged for it, but by the time I realized how big it was, it felt too late to bring it up."

ScopeGuard exists to interrupt that moment. To give you a system that makes it easy to pause, check, and decide—before you've already done the work.

What I Believe In

Simplicity over features

Every feature adds complexity. I'd rather have five features that work perfectly than fifty that kind of work.

Ownership over rental

Pay once, own it. Your data in formats you can read. No hostage situations.

Local-first

Your data stays on your machine. No accounts, no servers, no wondering what happens when the company pivots.

Honesty over marketing

I won't tell you ScopeGuard will transform your business. It's just solid software that does what it says.

My Background

Before software, I spent 20+ years in B2B sales—computers, digital equipment, the stuff businesses actually use. That taught me what matters to people running real operations: reliability, simplicity, and not having to call support every week.

Then I moved into database development. Custom systems for everyone from Hollywood equipment rental companies to property tax consultants. I've seen how businesses actually work, not how software companies think they should work.

ScopeGuard is the product of all that experience. A tool built by someone who's been in the trenches with small business owners for three decades.
